Elektrophysiology of the Giant Fibres of the Earthworm

By extracelluar recording of neuronal potentials of the giant fibres of the earthworm (Lumbricus terrestris) principles of neuronal information processing are investigated. Therefore the pupils investigate the escape reflex of the earthworm. They characterize the relation of the response with respect to the location and the strength of the stimulus. Furthermore they measure the conduction velocity of the giant fibers. By means of a computer simulation they investigate the influence of various axonal parameters on the conduction velocity.
