Fruit esters: fragrances & reaction equilibrium

The characteristics of the esterification and the saponification of Ethyl acetate will be monitored quantitatively by titration of the acetic acid. Finally the equilibrium constant will be calculated. For a thorough analysis the students should be familiar with the law of mass action. The experiments may also be used as an introduction to equilibrium reactions.
