Fuel cells

The students become acquainted with simple fuel cells and investigate different types of fuel cells using hydrogen peroxide as oxidating agent. The students vary the “fuel”, the aqueous electrolytes and the electrode materials in order to figure out which factors are important for the function of a fuel cell. Experiments with a photo-fuel cell complete the project and lead to a discussion of advantages and disadvantages of fuel cells.
