ISC Information

Goettingen is located in the southern part of Lower Saxony, in the center of Germany and Europe, between the Harz mountains and the Weser river. Goettingen is well known for its University. The XLAB is situated on the science campus of the Georg-August-University of Goettingen. All of the university laboratories and affiliated institutes, as well as the university dining hall, are within a few minutes walking distance.

English is the language used among all students, teachers and scientists during the XLAB International Science Camps. Englisch is the common language in science and worldwide Englisch is a unique way to communicate with all people of different cultural heritage.

Participants must be fluent in written and spoken English!
We reserve the right for English testing by interview.

 

The science camps last for 3 ½ weeks. Arrival day is Sunday before the Science camps start.

The number of participants is limited to 32. There are two to three experimental courses offered each week. The number of students per course is varying, depending on the capacity of the different laboratories and the availability of the scientific equipment. The students work in small groups of two or three. All experiments are hands-on experiments, including the use of special research instruments. Demonstrations are rarely used and limitited only to highly sofisticated experiments.

Every year the XLAB team plans and organizes a program of social and cultural activities for evenings and weekends during the ISC. A guided tour of Goettingen and short trips to medieval towns and other places of interest in the surrounding area are planned, as well as a wide variety of cultural events, sports, hikes, picnics and barbecues, etc. The last three days we organizing an excursion to Berlin.

The participants will stay at Hotel Beckmann.

The costs for the camp are 1.850 € which is all-inclusive except for the travel expenses to Goettingen and home.

Students from all over the world, aged 17 to 22, are invited to participate. For first contact it is required that students fill in our web form and later they provide an informal letter of recommendation by their science teacher, confirming their special interests in science and curriculum vitae in tabular form including a photo. German citizens and especially participants from the Goettingen area should be willing to stay at the Hotel Beckmann together with the other students. Social contacts among students with different cultural background are as important as experimental work and scientific learning.

Registration before 1^st of March makes it more likely that the applicant will get his first choice of courses.

We expect the pre-payment of the first rate directly after the confirmation on our account. Otherwise we reserve the right to assign the place to another applicant.
